Le Bouchon

As promised earlier, a LONG POST!

Last Friday was Novasan's (yes, our other contributor who has yet to contribute anything) birthday, I decided to pamper him with a very nice dinner at Le Bouchon at Changkat Bukit Bintang.

This particular French restaurant that is sitting at the corner of the road has a very rustic feeling. By standing in front of it, you'll wonder if you're in France or in KL. You'll be swept away into wonderful France with your first step into the restaurant.

*Dinner at France?*

*Table setting*

I love the way they set thier tables as there's enough room for everyone to move about yet not too far from each other which would make talking easier unlike Shook! with thier long tables. Besides that, you feel really warmth in there eventhough the air-conditioner is blasting at its higher notch.

After ordering, the server will serve two complimentary starters starting with this one. Sorry about the blur picture, it was quite dim and I only had my trusty Sony Ericson W850i with me.

*Complimetary Starter no. 1*

This particular starter is nothing really special except that the crunchy bread that's almost like a baguette was spreaded with a little pate and something like fish egg thingy which I'm not too quite sure what it is.

*Complimentary Starter no. 2*

Yes, bread again, this time served wih butter. The butter is quite funny as you it's sticky and wouldn't let you cut on it, yet not melting. AMAZING BUTTER! Oh, I did ask the served what name is the bread's name this time around and he said "The Roll". Haha! Apparently it's thier chef's own creation. The texture was so nice and chewy that the pig and I finished all the 3 rolls served.

As the pig loves trying out new things, he had the the Gourmet Menu set which costed RM148++. For appetizers, he chose La Salade Perigourdine Au Foie Gras, Gesiers Confits Et Magret Fume, Raisins Marines Au Cognac which actually means Dordogne Salad with Goose Liver Terrine, Gizzards Confit, Smoked Magret of Duck and Marinated Sultanas in Cognac Vinaigrette.

*Hmm...highclass salad with highclass ingredients*

Besides that, he also had Les Escargots De Bourgogne Aux Epinards or in English, it means Burgundy Snails individually prepared, gently cooked in Creamy Spinach Sauce. I had two bites of this yummy snails and no, they don't have the Dunlop tyre texture and is extremely yummy. Remember to order this if you go to this restaurant eventhough it is quite pricey for such a small dish.

*Before - ooo..yummy escargots..*

*After - Look at the plate/pan/whatever. It is oh-so-CUTE! I think they can only use it for escargots..or maybe pigeon eggs. Haha!*

For mains, he had L' Assiette Du Boucher Sauce Poivre or Lamb Cutlet, Chicken Breast and Beef Medaillon served with Peppercorn Sauce. The lamb was nicely cooked, chicken not dry and beef was also juicy. A yummy yum yum dish!

*3 meats on a plate for the meateater*

As for dessert, he had Le Tarte Tatin Flambee Calvados Et Boule Au Glace Vanille or French Apple Tart flamed with Calvados and topped with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was like tasted very muich like apple baked cinnamon with alcohol, which explains the flame. A very nice dessert to finish the meal with.

*Blue lights = FLAME!*

I, on the other hand, had Prawn Bisque (RM26) for appetiser. It came with a loaf of bread with was sticky and gooey and extremely filling. The bisque is creamy and sweet and full of flavor. After polishing off this bowl of bisque with a piece of the bread, I was so full I wanted to call it quits!

Luckily I didn't go for thier set menus but went for ala carte. *phew* I also had thier mushroom truffles pasta with foei gras (RM78). The sauce for the pasta had a strong truffle taste which was very yummy. The dish was also served with slices of mushrooms and itsy bitsy slices of truffles. Besides that, there was 2 pieces of foei gras as well. As it was my first time eating foie gras, I was very excited about it. But when I took a bite into it, the texture was like biting into pig fats without the oily icky feeling. Now I understand why people love it so much but I'm sorry, I think I'm not such a fan after all.

Besides that, we had a bottle of wine too. It was Pinot Noir (sorry I forgot the brand's name). According to the pig, it was a very nice bottle of Pinot Noir. I'll leave the rest for the pig to add on.

*Pinot Noir*

*Pretty glass of wine with not so pretty glass of water*

Oh yeah, when we asked for water, the server naturally asked if we would like sparkling or bottled water. I answered normal water so it was just any normal iced water which didn't cost us a single cent. Apparently that's the trend nowadays so that they can earn more. If you are like me who don't mind drinking normal water, do what I did. Just say "normal water will do". ^_^

Price: Slightly on the higher side - RM400++ for all the mentioned dishes above including wine

Cleanliness: Good. Toilet wasn't impressive though. However, the walkway to the sitting area was slightly on the gross side as you have to pass by the kitchen.

Location: N0.14&16, Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur. There is a map on thier website if you need.

All in all, we did have a wonderful meal that night eventhough there was some intrusion and some misunderstandings towards the end of the night. Oh well....
