Milk & Thick Toast

Bread has played a big role in my diet when I was in my younger days. You see, my mum only give me money to buy food frrom the canteen only once a week so I have to bring food for recess most of the time. Mondays would be 2 slices of bread with margerin/kaya/jam/etc as it is the day that school runs slightly longer, Tuesdays would be one slice and most Wednesdays would be buns (still bread to me) from Pasar Malam the night before and Thursdays would usually be biscuits most of the time. Not to mention I'm 'forced' to eat a slice of bread and milo almost every morning before going to school. However, this diet only lasted through primary school which is a relief to me! And also because of this diet, I'm not much of a bread lover and skip as many meals of bread as I can.

However, one of the many bread that I've so far not get sick off is the thick toast that is served in most Hong Kong Cafes i.e. Kim Gary. Maybe because I can seldom get hold of it, hence the non-anti feelings towards it.

The other day when I was shopping with the girls, we went into this little bakery called Le Bakenheim next to Finnegans Irish Pub in Desa Sri Hartamas. At that time, they were busy packing long loaves of bread to be sent to thier customers for the long Labour's Day weekend. I was unusually chirpy that day and ended up talking with the bakers and they offered to help me cut a loaf of those long bread to the size of the thick toast. My eyes lit up and nodded my head crazily. So in the end, one loaf of bread @ RM7++ makes about 12 slices of thick toast which I shared with Theng.

At night, I was hungry, as usual, and decided to pop a slice of bread into the oven in order to toast it. Yes, a normal bread toaster will not work, the slots are too small. As I do not have any peanut butter at home, I spread condensed milk over my toast with a dollop of butter on it. It was yummilicious!

So what did I have to go with this thick toast? MILK!!

Yes, I have a Cowie cup and no it is not reserve for milk only. *teehee*

If you would like to have a loaf of thick toast bread, just give Le Bakenheim a call beforehand and they would be willing to cut it to the size that you request for.
